Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is at the heart of Africa’s postal and digital transformation as the country welcomes leaders and experts for the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) Technical Committee meetings in Kampala.
Executive Director George Nyombi Thembo took to X to hail the moment, declaring a vibrant welcome to the distinguished delegates, signaling Uganda’s emergence as a continental hub for postal innovation.
Once limited to letters and parcels, the postal sector has exploded into a $400 billion global powerhouse, driving e-commerce, financial services, and small business growth.
The global network employs over five million people and serves as the backbone of “last-mile” connectivity, linking businesses and consumers across the world. UCC’s leadership underscores that African postal systems must evolve to meet the demands of a digital economy, turning traditional posts into modern logistics and e-commerce hubs.
Uganda is seizing this opportunity, using its role in PAPU and the Universal Postal Union to push innovation, regional integration, and digital service expansion. By transforming postal networks into financial and e-commerce platforms, Uganda is supporting SMEs and creating new economic avenues across the continent. This bold strategy positions the country as a leader in both digital connectivity and trade facilitation, ensuring that African postal systems are not left behind in the global e-commerce revolution.
The PAPU Technical Committee meetings in Kampala are more than a gathering, they are a launch pad for Africa’s postal future. Discussions will form the technical foundation for the upcoming Plenipotentiary Conference, where decisive action will be taken to modernize postal networks across the continent.
UCC’s active involvement highlights Uganda’s commitment to turning traditional postal services into drivers of economic growth, technological innovation, and continental integration. By embracing a digital-first approach, UCC is redefining what postal services mean for Africa: not just letters and parcels, but gateways to commerce, connectivity, and prosperity.
With visionary leadership and strategic partnerships, Uganda is boldly signaling that the age of the digital post has arrived, and the continent’s e-commerce revolution is just getting started. #PAPU2026Kampala | #PAPUPlenipot26.
