In his capacity as the Information Minister, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi this Saturday morning criticized the alleged persecution Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi and other Ssentamu family members are claimed to have endured, since Thursday 15th January, simply because their person Bobi Wine stood for President and came second to President Museveni.
Baryomunsi said in case of any wrongdoing or even criminal actions, the consequences should be visited on Bobi Wine himself as a person and not his wife or any other relative. He also disputed the ransacking of Kyagulanyi’s house and the destruction of furniture by members of the security forces that raided and laid siege at his home.
After NUP’s Benjamin Katana, who was in the studio, repeatedly contradicted what he was saying, Dr. Baryomunsi said he was human and can’t be one to celebrate the persecution of the spouse and other family members of a fellow politician.
Baryomunsi said it’s possible some of the things he says or has so far said about the situation at Kyagulanyi’s home might be inaccurate, a defect he vowed to cure by personally visiting Magere so that he gets to understand what has so far happened and continues to happen. “I’m going to consider personally going there to see what exactly is happening and who is being blocked from accessing the home and why. That will help me to speak authoritatively and be more authentic when addressing the public about this matter.”
Baryomunsi said there would be nothing wrong for the government security forces to be deployed at Mr. Wine’s home because the NUP President isn’t an ordinary person anymore. Baryomunsi wondered what could stop rogue-minded individuals from gaining unauthorized access to the abandoned home and cause havoc, in the hope that the resultant mischief will be blamed on the state. He said modest deployment of Police and army men at and around Mr. Wine’s house is an act of good faith by government which shouldn’t cause any members of the public to be alarmed.
During his planned visit to the Magere house, Baryomunsi, a medical doctor, hopes to directly interact with Itungo and get to understand more about the torture wounds she claims to have contracted during the alleged torturous encounter with security men who ransacked their house at Magere. He believes that paying that visit to the Magere residence will enable him communicate to the public more authoritatively regarding Mr. Wine’s whereabouts and the situation in the Magere neighborhood.
Benjamin Katana, who is a close personal friend of Bobi Wine and who was in the studios, didn’t reveal whether Baryomunsi will be welcome by the family to visit the Magere residence or not.
