The NRM Electoral Commission (EC) has nominated over 1000 party members in the first week of the nomination exercise for the July primary elections for MPs, district LC chairpersons, and Mayors.
The Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, said today that nearly 300 of those candidates were nominated on Thursday alone.
“Yesterday, Thursday, about 300 candidates were successfully nominated and shown a green light to primary elections. Today (Friday) we are bound to nominate more than that, because the numbers increased significantly,” Dr Odoi said.
Tanga said he expects many more aspirants in the second week of the nomination exercise which will close on Monday 30th. Close to 3000 aspirants are expected to return the nomination papers by the close of the nominations.
Dr Tanga Odoi congratulated the NRM young cadres for the spirited fight against the opposition during the concluded youth elections, winning over 85% of all votes across the country.
“We did very well and I want to thank the party and the boys and girls, for outweighing NUP and other political parties. “Where there was chaos, we want to request NUP to accept that the trend is changing and we are ready for them,” Tanga said.
