Rwemiyaga County MP Theodore Sekikubo on Tuesday addressed reporters at Parliament and made it clear that he has nothing personal, which should create anger or enemity between him and Gen Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi Kainenugaba, who is also the UPDF Chief of Defense Forces (CDF).
Sekikubo, who was among the MPs targeted and castigated by protestors who branded him a land grabber during their Monday protest, says the organizers know there is no bad blood between him and MK with whom (he says) he joyfully interacted and chatted in Kyotera last week during the Tarehe Sita celebrations, presided over by the President. Sekikubo says the organisers of the Monday protest are mere fortune hunters who are determined to create a list of imaginary enemies so that the CDF can release money to facilitate them to fight back on his behalf. He told reporters on Tuesday that such opportunists are obscurantists and the type that the President warned Gen MK about during a leaders’ retreat at Kyankwanzi last year.
Sekikubo said those seeking to create and profit from an imaginary wedge between him and Gen MK will fail because the First Son personally knows how he, as the Rwemiyaga County MP, has nothing personal against him. In fact, he claimed to know more and be closer to Gen MK than many PLU diehards including their Secretary General David Kabanda or even their other leader Michael Mawanda from Igara.
Sekikubo implied that there is a lot more between him and Gen MK and which gives them reason to work together than can divide them. He clarified that mere supporting calls for the CDF to appear before a Committee of Parliament doesn’t amount to being against the President’s son.
He explained that being required to appear before a Committee of Parliament to interact with the people’s representatives doesn’t amount to declaring war against Gen MK because as CDF, it’s in order for him to show up and interact with MPs to clarify on whatever queries they might have regarding the UPDF which he heads or even his own personal conduct of public affairs.
The Rwemiyaga MP rightly pointed out that all government MDA heads are susceptible to being summoned to interact with Committees of Parliament and the same doesn’t amount to hating the President’s son as the Monday protest organizers attempted to imply. He suggested they should find better ways of getting money from the CDF than creating imaginary enemies of his, even where none exists.
He castigated fellow MPs who he says opportunistically participated in the protest and advised them to use the Parliament platform to defend Gen MK the way they like because that’s where their electors sent them to speak from.
He asserted that the platform of street protests, which he says exposed double standards of the Police on Monday, should be left to ordinary PLU members and activists to lead since such ordinary people aren’t privileged to use the Parliament platform that is exclusively only available to the elected representatives of the people.
Sekikubo also advised Gen MK to realize that there is no way he can occupy a public office, such as the one of being CDF, and be immune to being summoned to interact with Committees of Parliament yet other similarly-placed MDA heads are routinely summoned to do so.
He explained that such summons is an opportunity for the concerned MDA head to come and clarify on something as opposed to being a torture chamber. He implored Gen MK to ever construe such summons as an act of hostility towards him as a leader occupying a public office.
