Desire Muhooza, a daughter to Gen Salim Saleh, managed to silence naysayers by securing a resounding victory for the race of NRM flag bearer for Kiboga Woman MP slot.
Muhooza, who has prioritized unity and elimination of intrigue as a means to re-energize the NRM base in Kiboga, defeated five others. She polled 16,744 votes (42.18%) against Niyonshaba’s 9934 (25%), Rhoda Nakintu’s 5808 (14.6%), Nakitende’s 5686 (14.3%), Nakakembo’s 1277 (3.2%) and Kempaka’s 231 (0.58%). Total number of votes was 39,680.
Muhooza is a talented community organizer with what it takes to defeat and overcome NUP’s Christine Kaaya Nakimwero who in 2021 capitalized on division among NRM leaders and fluked the Seat for herself.
Nakimwero has faced a lot of hostility because Kiboga remains an NRM stronghold and hers was the only significant political seat that Bobi Wine’s NUP, claimed to be in charge of Buganda region, won in the entire district.
The rest of elected leaders, with the exception of Kiboga Town Council LC3 Chairman, are all NRMs including the three constituency MPs and the LC5 Chairman. There is already so much hostility to the extent that Christine Kaaya Nakimwero seldom steps in Kiboga which is supposed to be her constituency.
What makes matters even worse is the fact that there are also divisions inside NUP whose members and leaders in the district aren’t even unanimous on her suitability for re-election. Hers is one of the many MP Seats which NUP will need to work very hard not to lose.
