A powerful message is shaking workers across Uganda after a bold empowerment call by Dr Aisha Ruth Kasolo Biyinzika. In one of her recent TikTok empowerment videos, she delivered a simple but strong warning to salary earners: do not depend on one income.
Her message is clear and direct. Anyone who is earning a salary must think beyond the monthly pay slip. She urged office workers to find something called a side hustle. According to her, a side hustle can be a small business, an extra income stream, or even a smart investment for the future. She advised workers to use their salaries wisely. They can buy land, invest in trust funds, purchase Treasury Bills, or start small businesses that grow over time.
Dr Kasolo challenged the common belief that office workers have no money. She said that is not true. She pointed to many rural towns where big businesses are owned by people who work in offices. In towns like Hoima, Rukungiri, Kabale, Masaka and Arua, many pharmacies, clinics, schools, bars, restaurants and hotels are owned by people who have office jobs. These are people who used their salaries to build something bigger.
She explained that salary earners have an advantage. Banks are more willing to give them loans because their salary acts as security. Even without land titles or mortgages, a steady income can help them get start-up capital. That is how many office workers quietly build businesses while still keeping their jobs.
Her message has now turned into a growing movement. Many young workers are rethinking how they spend their money. Instead of waiting for promotions or complaining about low pay, they are being encouraged to act. She says a person can use their skills, talents or even hobbies to earn extra income. A simple idea can grow into a stable business.
Dr Kasolo’s empowerment message is spreading fast online. Workers are now asking themselves one serious question: if others are building wealth with a salary, what is stopping me?
