Access to clean water in schools is set to improve as WaterQuip, a provider of water purification solutions, partners with Housing Finance Bank (HFB) to offer affordable financing for water systems.
Many schools in Uganda struggle with access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation. According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, about 37% of primary schools and 25% of secondary schools lack safe water, with rural schools facing even greater challenges.
WaterQuip specializes in advanced water treatment solutions to provide schools with reliable, sustainable drinking water. Through this partnership, Housing Finance Bank will offer financial support to schools looking to install WaterQuip systems, making clean water more accessible to students.
Under the agreement, WaterQuip will identify eligible schools and provide full installation, maintenance, and monitoring services. Housing Finance Bank will assess schools for financing and offer financial literacy training to ensure the sustainability of the initiative. Both organizations will also run awareness campaigns to promote clean water access.
“As a leader in water purification, WaterQuip is committed to ensuring safe drinking water for all students,” said Adrine Atumanya, CEO of WaterQuip Uganda. “This partnership with Housing Finance Bank will help us reach even more schools.”
Housing Finance Bank, known for supporting economic growth and social impact, sees clean water as an essential part of community development. The bank’s Head of Marketing and Communications, Doreen Nyiramugisha, emphasized that the initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 6, of Clean Water and Sanitation.
