This Wednesday as the new Kawempe North MP Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola was being sworn in, Speaker Anita Among admitted that the people of Kawempe and his NUP party deserved to be congratulated for the win they fought and worked so hard to get.
As soon as Among mentioned the word NUP, the National Unity Platform MPs present exploded into chants of “People Power, Our Power! Everywhere NUP.” They were led by Nalukoola cheerleaders like the Wakiso Woman MP Betty Ethel Naluyima, Bukomansimbi’s Kayemba Solo and Kalungu West’s Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu etc.
A visibly irritated Anita Among (renowned for her contempt for the NUP party) immediately called them to order while loudly reminding them “please reserve that type of shouting for the market because this is Parliament and not one of those market meetings of yours.”
LoP Joel Ssenyonyi signaled the NUP choir members like Naluyima, Kayemba Solo, Sewungu and others to calm down which allowed the ceremony to move towards conclusion.
Before drawing to the final end, Nalukoola, who Among allowed to make his “maiden speech” of some sort (as she casually branded it), thanked the Speaker for swearing him in expeditiously unlike the Electoral Commission bosses who dragged their feet on publishing his name in the gazette.
All in all, it was a cordial session during which Among nodded in approval as Nalukoola introduced to her his family members including his child, wife Shakirah Nansukusa and father Hajji Swaib Sserunjogi.
At the same ceremony, Speaker Anita Among also congratulated Joel Ssenyonyi for the sweet electoral victory that was preceded by a campaigning process into which the Observer newspaper says that Gen YK Museveni, who is also the ruling NRM Party Chairman, sunk or invested up to Shs2bn.
