A small fire reportedly broke out at Entebbe International Airport on Thursday afternoon, causing temporary panic among travelers but no major disruptions to operations.
The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said in a statement released on social media, that the incident occurred at around 1:16 pm on May 1, 2025, inside one of the shops located in the waiting lobby area of the passenger terminal building.
The fire was allegedly noticed by airport staff and passengers, prompting an immediate response from the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS).
Authorities confirmed that the blaze was quickly contained before it could spread to nearby areas, and normal airport operations reportedly resumed by 2:30 pm.
“All inconveniences caused are highly regretted,” the statement read.
According to CAA, no injuries or damages beyond the affected shop were reported, and the exact cause of the fire is still unknown but will be investigated.
Entebbe International Airport is Uganda’s main gateway to the world, handling over 1.9 million passengers annually.
Located on the shores of Lake Victoria in Entebbe, about 40 kilometers south of Kampala, the airport is operated by the UCAA and plays a crucial role in regional and international travel, as well as cargo transport.
The Airport has in recent years undergone major upgrades, including the expansion of the terminal building and improvements in safety infrastructure, a move aimed at positioning Uganda as a competitive aviation hub in East Africa.
