Residents in parts of Najjera, Kiwatule, Bulabira, Busibante, and Buwate were left in shock after taps suddenly ran dry following a major water transmission failure.
The water outage, which affected thousands of households, was traced to a damaged transmission main at the busy Bulabira–Najjera junction. The disruption forced authorities to immediately shut off water supply to parts of Najjera, Kiwatule, Buwaate, Busibante, Bulabira, and surrounding areas in order to manage what was described as an emergency fault.
The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) swiftly intervened and disclosed details of the crisis and ongoing repair efforts through updates shared on X. In its communication, the utility body explained that the shutdown was necessary to prevent further damage and allow engineers to safely handle the situation.
In an official update, NWSC stated that it was closely working with road contractors to urgently install culverts that would allow for pipe reinstatement works. The corporation emphasized that all efforts were focused on restoring water supply in the shortest time possible. It further expressed regret for the inconveniences caused to its valued customers.
According to officials, the damaged transmission line is a key supply route serving thousands of homes in the affected neighborhoods. The pipe is believed to have been compromised during ongoing road construction works near the Bulabira–Najjera junction.
Residents described the situation as extremely challenging, noting that families depend heavily on the daily water supply for cooking, cleaning, and other essential activities. Many expressed hope that the restoration works would be completed quickly to ease the growing pressure on households.
Heavy machinery and technical teams have since been deployed to the site, with engineers racing against time to complete repairs. NWSC assured the public that everything possible is being done to resolve the crisis swiftly and restore normal water supply.
