Mathias Mpuuga and his DA adherents inside NUP have had their phone numbers deleted from a WhatsApp group of party MPs and other key decision makers in the Kavule party.
Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro, deputy party spokesman, says the removal of Mpuuga was long overdue because he has for months been considered a mole whose only role on the group was now that of spying for and on behalf of the ruling NRM party of Gen Museveni.
Diehard Mpuuga supporter Juliet Kakande, who is the Masaka City Woman MP, was among those removed and says there wasn’t much she and other similarly targeted rebel MPs were benefiting from merely being on Bobi Wine’s WhatsApp group.
Others who have been purged include the very unrepentant Abed Bwanika, Joyce Bagala, Entebbe Municipality’s Micheal Kakembo and others. Waisswa says Kavule has been patient enough making it clear that the WhatsApp purging is just a curtain-raising act because many more purging actions are going to be taken as the party counts down to the 30 days that were given to the renegade NUP officials.
They have to apologize within that period or risk being totally dismembered and locked out of the party’s upcoming candidates’/flag bearers’ selection exercise. Some like Joyce Bagala have responded defiantly making it clear there is nothing to apologize for because it’s their right to hold dissenting views different from Bobi Wine’s.
Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro called the reorganization of the WhatsApp group fumigation and a “disinfection” operation which will culminate into not just Mpuuga but all the other ‘moles’ being purged out of the country’s most potent opposition political party.
