As NUP aspirants for MP Seats continue to eagerly wait upon the Harriet Chemutai-led EMC to release the official list, this news website has become privy to the contents of the definite report that is being finalized.
And we have also managed to confirm names of some of the aspirants who have managed to make it on the final list (which has kept changing from time to time) and they include the following:
Medard Segona has been removed at the last minute and at the time of piecing together this update, intense debate among top decision makers was raging between Mathias Walukagga and Emmanuel Matovu Magoola.
For Kampala Woman MP slot, Shamim Malende is bouncing back with Zahara Luyirika being deployed back to Makindye East where the indecisive Derrick Nyeko has been the incumbent since 2021.
In Mukono, Woman MP Anifa Nabukeera has stayed on the list as Busiro North’s incumbent MP Paul Nsubuga gets massacred. At the time of writing this latest update, top decision makers at Kavule were intensely debating who between Ronald Semaganda and Kastar Bukenya (who was on top as of Sunday) should be given the party flag.
For Rubaga South, the ticket has irretrievably been given to Euginia Nassolo. Patrick Kutesa has been fronted to battle Abed Bwanika in Kimanya-Kabonera. Sam Muyizi has been disregarded as the Nyendo Mukungwe slot goes to Sebina Gyavira Lubow, the head of NGO/Leopard clan. He also recently resigned his job of being assistant bursar at Makerere University to participate in NUP primaries.
Gyavira is a rich generous rotarian backed by legendary Masaka City power broker Florence Namayanja who has always been paranoid towards Muyizi, a top Kampala lawyer, who Kavule sometime back lured to resign his lucrative job of heading the KCCA property valuations court to which Erias Lukwago deployed him following the exit of now Bugiri MP Asuman Basalirwa.
In Busiro South, the incumbent Charles Nsubuga has been retained with Matia Lwanga Bwanika and wealthy Kampala lawyer Stephen Sekigozi being disregarded. They both previously belonged to DP.
In Mityana, Joyce Bagala (who had to meet Mr. Wine and apologize over her original refusal to denounce Mpuuga-ism) has been retained to defend her seat against a resurgent Judith Nabakooba.
Harriet Nakwedde is the flag bearer for Kayunga Woman MP Seat, meaning she will be once again battling Aida Nantaba who has been area Woman MP Since 2011.
In Bbale County Kayunga district still, Charles Tebandeke (who recently went on his knees to apologize to Mr. Wine) has been retained as Patrick Nsanja gets fronted for Ntenjeru North MP Seat in Kayunga.
In Yusuf Nsibambi’s Mawokota South, Dr. Joel Mirembe one of the earliest young professionals to embrace Bobi Wine’s People Power has been disregarded in favour of Martin Ssejjemba, his former driver who he recruited in NUP and personally introduced to both Bobi Wine and Rubongoya, the SG.
Ssejjemba is the Mpigi LC5 Chairman whose arrest was last month ordered by the President after Super fm senior journalist Ben Ssozi detailed state house about a cartel that was using the area District Service Commission to extort money from job-seeking graduates. Ssozi’s child had had their money eaten and the job was never given yet family land had been sold.
Ssejjemba confessed to the offence and got recorded by the undercover operatives who SHACU unleashed to go and harvest him from his Mpigi distict offices as LC5 Chairman. He was jailed and remanded at Kigo for three weeks until when new NUP lawyer Jonathan Erutu was deployed to go and rescue him.
Some NUP officials stand accused of having been prepared to part with up to Shs10m as sweeteners for the concerned state operatives to back off and let Ssejjemba be. This was during the time he was on remand at Kigo prison.
He was eventually released on bail and State House sources say the state intends to re-arrest him at the last minute so that NUP fails to get anyone nominated for Mawokota South MP Seat. Hundreds of Boda-Boda riders, many of whom had originally been recruited by Dr. Joy Mirembe who is now unwanted by decision makers at Kavule (and is also the General Secretary of Uganda Medical Association) have vowed to protest the NUP ticket-allocation decision by voting for NRM’s Susan Nakawuki who is their fellow youth.
Some members inside NUP’S EMC had initially objected to Ssejjemba on grounds that he is an indicted person who might end up being re-arrested and thereby leaving the party with no candidate but all that was overruled in favour Ssejjemba, the Makerere geology graduate, who is a very good ally of Secretary General Rubongoya.
Ssejjemba actually continues to serve as the overall NUP Kunga mobilisation coordinator for the whole of greater Mpigi districts of Mpigi, Butambala and Gomba even after some party MPs from the area objected on grounds that his corruption-related charges would dent and give the party bad image and reputation.
Wakiso Woman MP Betty Ethel Naluyima is on the list as is Nkunyingi Muwadda of Kyaddondo East. Dr. Ali Damani, who is Kyagulanyi’s family physician and who recently resigned his well-paying job at Makerere Medical School in order to participate in NUP primaries, has been disregarded.
Sources say that there is no way Dr. Damani will ever get the NUP ticket for as long as SG Rubongoya, who hates him personally, continues to sit on the decision-making table.
The same applies to ex-Makerere guild president Dr. Roy Semboga who is being sacrificed for the 2nd time in NUP primaries, this time in favour of Fred Nyanzi for the Kawempe South MP Seat.
Insiders say that Rubongoya passionately resents these two medics because they came closest to grabbing the SG role during a stormy meeting where the 35 People Power founder members elected the Executive Secretary for what those days used to exist at People Power.
Three names came up namely Semboga, Damani and Rubongoya who eventually carried the day. During those People Power founding days, the SG was equally uncomfortable with Allan Mutagubya who got frustrated and totally abandoned Kyagulanyi. He these days works in his home district of Kalangala in Seese islands.
Mulyanyama is getting the ticket for Makindye West, a thing that will leave Allan Sewanyana and Faruk Ntege licking incurable political wounds. Nakifuma’s Fred Ssimbwa is off and the ticket has gone to Suleiman Kiwanuka. For Kalungu West, the NUP ticket has gone to Yusuf Kiruluta Nkeretanyi which means sacrificing the incumbent Francis Katabaazi Katongole.
For Entebbe municipality, the NUP ticket has gone to Joyce Nabatta Namuli who will be replacing Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa who went with Mathias Mpuuga to found DF.
Makerere’s assistant bursar Sebina Gyavira Lubowa, who is also the Katikkiro of Ngo leopard clan, has been given the NUP flag to tackle Mathias Mpuuga out of his Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Seat. This means Alice Nannungi and lawyer Sam Muyizzi have been left out in the cold with an egg on their face.
Muyizzi, a Kampala lawyer, had to resign his prestigious job of chairing the KCCA valuation court to which Erias Lukwago had appointed him. He replaced Jeema big man Asuman Basalirwa. Jinja City Woman MP Manjeri Kyebakutika is safely on the list.
Euginia Nassolo has the flag for Rubaga South, leaving incumbent Aloysius Mukasa in total coldness. The same goes for moneybags Adam Smith who recently joined NUP and has been splashing money on the principal and Kavule generally including the campaign ambulance he donated to the party recently.
Nakifuma County’s Fred Ssimbwa is dropped in favour of Sulaiman Kiwanuka as Mukono Woman MP Anifa Nabukeera retains her flag, which will be very bad news for Betty Nambooze who had been fronting and marketing someone else. Even for Nakifuuma, Nambooze has been disregarded because she was backing Fred Ssimbwa who the Harriet Chemutai-led EMC has massacred.
