Pax Kalema has this Thursday evening announced his bowing out of the MP race for Bukoto East constituency in Masaka district. He had vowed to run as an independent candidate after blaming the NRM EC for rigging the flag bearer’s race in favour of Sarah Kityo Babirye.
He had actually started his campaigns as an independent and his insistence to remain in the race had increased chances for NUP’s Evans Kanyike to secure re-election without much effort.
Kalema’s decision to bow out was communicated to NRM leaders who were preparing to depart from Hotel Africana after attending a day-long harmonization meeting which the new Buganda region chairman Haruna Kasolo organized to facilitate dialogue and enable feuding cadres to find common ground and forget about the differences that were created as a result of the belligerent races they had during party primaries.
Kalema, who wasn’t at Hotel Africana where many would-be independents denounced defiance and embraced flag bearers, sent a text message to Kiwanuka Kiryowa who proceeded to read it out to fellow leaders in attendance. KK said he was open to having discussion with Pax Kalema and have his concern resolved regarding his request to be given back his job as RDC.
Kiryowa equally welcomed the decision by Makindye East’s Elijah Owomugasho’s willingness o bow out and allow the flag bearer Judith Abaho to take on whoever NUP and other opposition parties will front.
KK praised Elijah for being a consistent fighter with whom he worked and Madina Nsereko to force Erias Lukwago out of the KCCA office during the impeachment proceedings of 2013.
The AG equally saluted outgoing Nakasongora LC5 Chairman Lt Samuel Kigula’s willingness to bow out of the race and allow the flag bearer to have his chance. His only condition was that the flag bearer stops being belligerent and begins reaching out in a manner that shows respect for those who he defeated in NRM primaries.
