A flamboyant self-imposed leader of the NRM youth movement is currently on the run and in hiding after taking advantage of the lull that comes with the Christmas season to fleece NRM activist HanifaKaradi of her hard earned Shs7m.
Described by many as a social climber, the NRM youth leader famous for imposingly hanging around big people in big places started his mischief by whatsapping photos of what looked a nice car to Karadi’s phone as she prepared to drive to Mbarara for Christmas.
He told her that the car was up for sale and he was willing to help her get the best offer from the seller whom he claimed to be his best friend.
On being told about the price, Karadi who had worked with him on a few errands before became excited and offered to make some advance payment.
The shady NRM youth leader said that it was actually possible for her to get the car and go with it for Christmas and pay the balance later.
All she had to do was to deposit Shs7m. She had Shs5m in cash and offered to send the balance via mobile money once she reaches home in Mbarara.
The two met and the youth leader received the Shs5m and gave her what later turned out to be a fake ownership card/logo book for the vehicle.
She was told the car would be surrendered to her the moment the additional Shs2m is sent. He offered to get someone to drive the car to her in Mbarara the moment the Shs2m was received.
She sent the money and after confirming receiving the money, the NRM youth boss’ phone went off. Karadi had to go through friends to reach him after chasing for days.
The very romantic and street wise young man can be very persuasive. He told her “sorry darling my phone was stolen by kifeesi thugs on the street as soon as I was done speaking to you.”
He kept promising to either deliver up the car or refund the money. Karadi later got frustrated and reported the matter to security whereupon it was discovered the logo book was fake describing a none-existent car.
The smooth-operating NRM youth leader has since gone into hiding and each time Karadi calls, he humbly tells her “let me call you back I’m in State House meeting the president with some other youth leaders.”
A few days ago, Karadi rang him asking for at least Shs1m for treatment of her father and he simply said “give me time I don’t have anything on me but will have soon after meeting the President.”
