Kampala lit up in yellow as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) staged a show of political might, storming the Electoral Commission headquarters with over 2 million signatures in support of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s 2026 re-election bid.
In a dramatic and colorful display, NRM supporters, top party officials, and mobilization heavyweights marched through Yusuf Lule Road, proudly donning the party’s iconic yellow, a visual statement of the movement’s national dominance.
Though President Museveni was not physically present, his nomination forms arrived at the EC offices in Industrial Area, delivered with fanfare and symbolic significance.
His absence didn’t dampen the energy if anything, it amplified it.
The high-powered delegation was led by NRM Secretary General Rt Hon. Richard Todwong, accompanied by NRM Director of Mobilization Hon. Rosemary Sseninde and NRM EC Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi.
The group personally handed over the 2 million signatures, a legal requirement for presidential nomination, to the EC amid cheers and chants from jubilant supporters.
“The signatures are a clear indication of the party’s strength and popularity across the country,” said Todwong. “We are confident that this massive support will translate into landslide victories for President Museveni and all NRM candidates.”
The spirited march wasn’t just symbolic, it was strategic.
It sent a clear message to opposition camps: the NRM machine is not only active, it’s unstoppable.
After the submission, the yellow sea of supporters marched back to the NRM Secretariat, waving flags, dancing, and chanting pro-Museveni slogans, a bold finale to a powerful political statement.
With Museveni officially locked in as the NRM flag bearer, all eyes now turn to the campaign trail, where the 2026 race promises to be one of the most heated contests in Uganda’s political history.
