Henry Banyenzaki, once a very flamboyant Minister in Gen YK Museveni’s government, must be the most tormented Ugandan right now following a decision by a top Kampala money lender to secure a court order to attach his prime properties in Kampala’s suburb of Nansana. And this is for the recovery of monies owed stretching into billions.
Sources close to him say that Banyenzaki, once a very outspoken rebel MP who Museveni silenced with a Ministerial posting more than 10 years ago, incorporated private companies which secured deals to supply different government MDAs, which defaulted on payment. Consequently, he is one of those who for years have been chasing for billions on the list of claimants under a category called domestic arrears.
Banyenzaki tried lobbying for his companies to be paid through Gen Salim Saleh (who gives him a monthly salary under OWC) but he still was ignored by the powerful guys at the Finance Ministry who insisted he can’t be given any preferential treatment off a long list of claimants seeking payment under domestic arrears because he isn’t special as he thinks.
Knowledgeable sources close to him say that this was the genesis of his financial woes, which have left money lenders with no option but to go into foreclosure and attach his properties that were mortgaged as security to secure the billions he took out in loans.
The properties being targeted to be auctioned in the next 14 days unless the financially cracking Banyenzaki miraculously pays up comprise of Plots 696, 695, 694 and 700 under Block 276 Busiro Conty located at Kabulengwa village Naluvule, which simply is the next township after Nansana along Hoima Road.
Available court documents indicate that the borrower and registered owner of the property is none other than Henry Banyenzaki who many years ago acquired some of these properties from real estate developer Anatoli Kamugisha formerly of Akright under very controversial circumstances. The property comprises of the land itself and several residential apartments and commercial buildings which are high rise and well enclosed in perimeter wall fences.
Those who might be interested in purchasing the foreclosed properties can get more information from Vital Signs-Debt Solutions who are the court bailiffs who have been tasked with effecting the public auctioning of the same. Based Shell Capital First Floor along Kampala Road, they can be reached via 0757505118, 0200906496 and 0752813127.
Yet Banyenzaki isn’t the only renowned Musevenist who financially has fallen on hard times lately. Ex-Kibanda County MP Sam Otada too has had his property put up for auctioning by Court after money lenders got aggrieved and dragged him to Court.
His properties that are being auctioned are mainly commercial buildings situated in Lira City and other parts of Lango sub region. In adult age, he had eaten a humble pie and gone back to school at Makerere to train as a lawyer but evidently, this hasn’t saved him either.
And yet Museveni will predictably not be coming in to help either because State House was never comfortable with the independent-mindedness with which Sam Otada used to approach the legislative business in the House especially during the 9th Parliament which was chaired by Rebecca Kadaga.
