On Friday, various individuals gathered at King’s College, Budo, for a fundraising dinner aimed at raising money to build a new chapel to replace the current one, which was established in 1959.
At the event, the former Bishop of the Namirembe Diocese, Rt. Rev. Kityo Luwalira, encouraged attendees to enthusiastically engage in God’s work, emphasizing that individuals are blessed with their resources through divine grace and should give back and focus on strengthening their relationship with God.
The school principal, Canon John Fred Kazibwe, explained that the decision to construct a new chapel was made after recognizing that the existing one could no longer accommodate the growing number of students compared to what the enrolment was when it was built in 1959.
The new chapel will complement other buildings completed over the past four years as part of the school’s efforts to enhance student education and accommodation. Notable additions include Grace House, Australia House, and new classrooms.
Canon Kazibwe announced that the new chapel will have a sitting capacity to simultaneously hold 2,000 congregants at a time. He extended his gratitude to all who turned up for the dinner and have contributed. So far, the fundraising effort has realized Shs888,932,575 in cash and pledges toward the overall goal of raising Shs1,000,000,000. While Shs705,932,524 has so far been collected in cash, another Shs182,325,000 is in pledges.(For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
