In his capacity as NRM National Chairman, Gen YK Museveni has reappointed Makerere University History Professor Fred Tanga Odoi in his position as the ruling party’s Electoral Commission Chairman.
Museveni made known his pro-Tanga preference during a CEC meeting at State House where some haters tried to object but were over ruled.
Museveni made his case making it clear that, much as the man from Kisoko in Tororo district may not be an angel, the ruling party would hardly find someone better to steer it through the forthcoming internal elections (whose roadmap will be approved by the same CEC on Wednesday) than Odoi Tanga.
Some CEC members, especially those who have overstayed, have become unpopular and are facing strong challengers, tried to object but Gen Museveni over ruled them especially after it became clear that majority of the members present had no problem with Odoi Tanga-and actually shared the wisdom of having him carry on with his work.
Especially after the Kisoro Woman MP byelections, Dr. Tanga had lately become unpopular among NRM cadres and leaders and his reappointment will indeed hurt many, as party members count down to the upcoming party delegates conference. One of the CEC members who vigorously opposed Tanga’s reappointment is from the Western region and another is from Buganda region.
