President Yoweri Museveni recently visited the family of the late Lady Canon Keroyi Bashasha in Bushenyi/Ishaka municipality, offering condolences and honoring her significant contributions to both family and community.
Lady Canon Keroyi Bashasha, born on October 2, 1944, in Kyeitembe Village, Bushenyi District, was the wife of Lay Canon Yorokamu Bashaasha and mother to several notable figures, including Willis Bashaasha, Director of the Manifesto Implementation Unit in the Office of the President, and Winstone Katushabe, Commissioner for Transport Regulation and Safety at the Ministry of Works.
During his visit, President Museveni laid a wreath on Lady Canon Keroyi’s grave, where prayers were led by the Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, Johnson Twinomujuni.
The President praised the Bashaasha family for their longstanding loyalty and contributions to Uganda’s development. He recalled how the late Mzee Bashaasha was among the first farmers to import Friesian cows from Kenya, introducing modern farming practices to western Uganda.
Reflecting on their 64-year association, President Museveni expressed gratitude for their enduring friendship and the positive impact the family has had on the nation.
The President also commended the couple for raising their children to be exemplary citizens, thanking them for their role in shaping a family that continues to serve the country in various capacities.
Local leaders, including Bushenyi District Woman Member of Parliament Annet Katustime Mugisha, joined the President in honoring the Bashaasha family’s legacy and their contributions to the region’s development.
Bashasha’s life was marked by unwavering faith and dedication to her community. Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Steven Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, during her funeral service, highlighted her strong connection with God and her life deeply grounded in faith.
