The NUP Principal Bobi Wine has continued to be stuck with his blue-eyed boy Kenneth Paul Kakande whose mobilization and articulation prowess he continues to be fascinated by.
He badly wants Kenneth Paul, a veteran of the anti-Museveni struggle since the UYD day, to be part of the NUP caucus in the 12th Parliament.
The problem, however, has been and continues to be getting an appropriate constituency where to deploy Kakande who is currently a lawyer in Kampala.
In 2021, Kakande had positioned himself for Nakawa West which went to Joel Ssenyonyi. Actually upon failing to get the NUP ticket, Kakande defiantly stood as an independent and lost to Ssenyonyi. But Bobi Wine has remained magnanimous towards him.
Kyagulanyi believes that 2026 must be Kakande’s year to join Parliament and begin enjoying groceries-or never. He originally encouraged him to consider taking on Medard Segona in Busiro East where the former Kabaka Minister has been MP since 2011.
However, Kakande who has a farm along Hoima road in Segona’s Busiro East, declined saying the decency in him didn’t permit him antagonizing a decent man and old friend like Segona.
He hesitated and up to now he has never made up his mind even when he is fully aware that Kyagulanyi wanted to use him to revenge against Segona’s refusal to publicly antagonize the DA big man Mathias Mpuuga.
Then Kyagulanyi indicated to Kakande two other options from which he is free to choose and be assured of his backing.
These are Lugazi Municipality whose incumbent Stephen Sserubula it turned out is equally a good friend who the decent man Kakande says he isn’t prepared to antagonize.
He has ancestral roots in Lugazi-Buikwe district but KK is still reluctant and has repeatedly indicated to Mr. Wine it would be betrayal of him to stand against Sserubula or antagonize him for the NUP flag.
The other option, which is equally still on table, is for Kakande to take on cracking Museveni Minister Amos Lugoloobi.
He has for many years been MP for Ntenjeru North in Kayunga district where NUP needs to front a strong contender of KK’s stature to uproot him in 2026. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
