She has always been very strong-willed hoping that her husband wouldn’t take so long in the Makindye military confinement. But her hopes are beginning to wane seeing no light at the end of the tunnel. We are talking about Angela, the wife of incarcerated ex-IGP Gen Kale Kayihura. The first crying incidence publicly known so far occurred last week during a visit by an influential female minister renowned to have been one of Gen Kayihura’s strongest allies during his days as a strong police chief. The General always deployed in the Minister’s constituency each time a slightest threat was detected. So last week, the Minister got the opportunity to meet Kayihura who hosted her in the presence of his wife Angela. As we reported earlier, Kayihura reflected on the Kaweesi murder vehemently telling the Minister he had nothing to do with it. He went as far as saying it was him who rapidly promoted Kaweesi from obscurity into an influential police officer Ugandans came to admire. He said Kaweesi had all the necessary credentials to replace him as IGP and added that if he indeed had vendetta against him, there are many other things he would have done to overcome Kaweesi but didn’t have reason to. He then concluded that if the Ugandan state media has decided to destroy his image to such an extent for all the good things he did for Kaweesi, then it’s his wish that the President directs the army leadership to put him to firing squad and summarily end his life on earth. Kayihura told the Minister that the quick firing squad was better than subjecting him to a very humiliating public trial. He tasked the Minister to communicate his wish to the President anytime she gets the opportunity to have audience with him. This insistence by Kayihura to be quickly executed by firing squad moved his wife Angela to tears prompting the minister to console her to stop it. She didn’t and instead had a prolonged wailing session as if her husband Kayihura had died. In the same visitation session, Kayihura addressed the minister about the fate of Boda-Boda 2010 patron Abdul Kitata whom he casually referred to as this boy. “Kati waliwo eno ensonga z’ono omwana Kitata [now look at this Kitata issue]. I’m surprised I hear I will be on trial because he had guns in his possession yet these guns were legally issued to him for reasons that are well known to the top leadership of this country but it’s okay if I must be crucified for all that let them put me on firing squad and I go without going through all this psychological torture of being accused and condemned for things I didn’t do.” In a related development, reports whose veracity we tried but failed to establish indicated that Gen Muhoozi last week was among the high profile Ugandans who visited Kayihura and delivered to him a secret message of hope from the CiC.
