A powerful anti-corruption storm is sweeping through Uganda as the Inspectorate of Government (IG) moves to cash in on properties seized from corrupt officials!
In a dramatic Wednesday early morning visit, the Inspector General of Government, Aisha Naluzze Batala, stepped onto one of 17 confiscated properties now under intense scrutiny. The site, located in Kitende along Entebbe Road, once belonged to a former official from the Uganda National Roads Authority—but not anymore!
The IG has launched a full-scale valuation exercise, with the Chief Government Valuer tasked to determine how much these controversial properties are really worth before they are sold off. The stakes are high, and the numbers are eye-popping!
Investigations revealed that the former Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) staff drastically under declared his wealth by a staggering UGX 1.6 billion. Faced with possible prosecution, he made a shocking move—surrendering a prime property consisting of ten apartments in Kitende.
But here’s the twist: the seized apartments are already generating cash! The property pulls in about UGX 7 million every month, money that now goes straight into the IG Asset Recovery Account managed by the Bank of Uganda.
Out of the 17 recovered properties, five are already developed and earning rental income, while the remaining 12 sit undeveloped—yet potentially worth millions more. All are currently being managed by Knight Frank on behalf of the IG.
Justice Batala praised investigators for what she called a “remarkable breakthrough,” vowing that even more hidden wealth will be tracked down. Authorities say this is just the beginning of a wider crackdown aimed at reclaiming stolen public funds.
The aggressive asset tracing strategy is sending a chilling message to corrupt officials: your wealth can—and will—be taken back.
