In Iganga, Busoga Sub-region, a quiet revolution is taking shape. Women entrepreneurs, once limited by financial barriers, are now finding their footing in the business world, thanks to Equity Bank Uganda’s Abakyala ku Ntiiko initiative.
With knowledge as their greatest asset and determination as their driving force, these women are rewriting their financial stories.
The initiative, now in its second edition, is designed to give women the skills and confidence to manage their businesses effectively.
Since its launch in March 2024, Abakyala ku Ntiiko has been making a tangible impact by providing financial education, mentorship, and access to banking solutions tailored for women-led enterprises.
At the Iganga event, on friday, businesswomen from various sectors gathered, eager to learn how to strengthen their financial standing. Ruth Nakaima, Deputy Speaker of Iganga Municipality, praised the program’s impact, emphasizing that empowering women through financial literacy is a direct investment in the prosperity of families and communities.
Equity Bank’s Regional Manager, Ronald Nakhasanga, reinforced the institution’s commitment to fostering economic inclusion.
Nakhasanga introduced a range of financial products designed to support women entrepreneurs, including Equi Mama loans, school fees financing, youth business loans, and SACCO loans. He noted that financial independence is not just about accessing money but about understanding how to make it work for long-term success.
Barbara Namata, Relationship Supervisor for Group Lending, walked the attendees through additional financial opportunities, such as microloans, asset financing, agribusiness credit, and group-based funding that requires no collateral.
These solutions, she explained, are meant to bridge the gap between ambition and achievement for women in business.
The event was more than a learning experience, but a celebration of resilience and progress. Women shared their stories of growth, from struggling with informal businesses to managing structured enterprses.
Many credited their success to the financial tools and guidance provided by Equity Bank. The atmosphere was one of possibility, as attendees connected, exchanged ideas, and formed networks that would extend beyond the event.
As Abakyala ku Ntiiko continues its journey, with upcoming engagements in Lira and Kiboga, it carries a simple but powerful message that women are not just participants in the economy, but leaders as well, innovators, and changemakers. With the right support, there is no limit to what they can achieve.
