As Uganda faces persistent challenges in transparency and accountability, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has launched the 10th edition of the Accountancy Service Awards (ASSA) with a strong emphasis on professionalism, ethical leadership, and national impact.
Lydia Tusiime, Manager of Business Development at ICPAU, explained that the awards recognize outstanding contributions across eight categories.
She highlighted the ICPAU Gold Service Award, which honors members with over 20 years of exceptional service in the accountancy profession, including mentorship, innovative contributions, and scholarly work.
The CPA of the Year award, she added, recognizes individuals with at least ten years of service who demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and innovative leadership.
Tusiime also discussed the Woman Accountant of the Year category, reserved exclusively for women who have made significant contributions to their organizations through leadership and innovation.
The Young Accountant of the Year award targets energetic CPAs under 35 years of age who are making remarkable impacts in the field.
Further, she noted that this year’s awards expanded the Finance Team of the Year category to include teams across all sectors of the economy, emphasizing teamwork, creativity, and measurable impact on business growth.
Accounting firms are also recognized internally based on professionalism, while institutional partners who support the accountancy profession are invited for nominations.
Sandra Nakibuule Batte, Chairperson of the ICPAU Member Services Committee, emphasized the awards’ role in reinforcing the profession’s standards.
She noted that the ASSA Awards provide professional recognition, boost career advancement, and enhance trust and credibility among clients and peers.
The awards also offer networking opportunities and public visibility, which validate the efforts of the nominees and motivate continuous excellence.
Immaculate Ngulumi, representing Centenary Bank, praised the initiative as a celebration of professionalism that drives accountability and ethical practices crucial to Uganda’s development.
She reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to sponsoring the awards and encouraged the public to nominate accountants who exemplify these values.
The nominations for the 2025 ASSA Awards remain open until September 28, with the ceremony scheduled for October 3, 2025, at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
