Bobi Wine appeared on NBS TV’s Barometer program for the first time Tuesday night and was ably hosted by Adam Kungu, contrary to what his original desire had been.
He had wished to be interviewed by Zambali Mukasa, a staunch supporter of his under NUP on whose ticket he wants to run for Nansana Municipality come 2026. Kyagulanyi had also desired to be interviewed from his palatial home at Magere and all these were rejected. He was told there is no way Zambaali’s ongoing suspension would be halted simply because his party leader wanted him to be the one to interview him.
Kin Kariisa, the NBS supremo, took part in behind the scenes negotiations that from the NUP side were participated into by LoP Joel Ssenyonyi and David Lewis Rubongoya who famously has a lot of personal chemistry and good rapport with some members of top executive at Next Media.
The NBS top management made it clear to Kyagulanyi that being hosted by his preferred Zambali was out of question and non-negotiable since the popular presenter continues to be on suspension. The demand to be interviewed from the comfort of his Magere home was equally rejected with management making it clear they didn’t want it to appear as if the NUP Principal was doing them a favor to appear on their Barometer program.
There has always existed a complicated relationship between the NUP Principal and the Next Media whose top executives felt offended when Bobi Wine wrote a strongly-worded public statement castigating NBS for allegedly conniving with members of the deep state to provide cover for those he says stole his victory in the 2021 elections in favor of Gen YK Museveni.
In fact, the Next Media top management got so much hurt and a decision had been taken never to host Kyagulanyi and his well-known diehard supporters like Joel Ssenyonyi and Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro. It took the intervention of MP Joyce Bagala (who those days was still on good terms with Magere) to convince her former employers at the Naguru-based Next Media Park to relax on some of these sanctions that had been proclaimed against the NUP Principal and members of his inner orbit.
