At a time when many Ugandans are struggling to find decent and affordable homes, Housing Finance Bank (HFB) and Easy Housing have stepped in with a promise of better days.
The two institutions unveiled a new partnership to build strong, climate-friendly homes that even an ordinary Ugandan can affordi in a groundbreaking launch which happened at the Housing Finance Bank Head Office in Kololo on Friday.
Owning a home has for years remained a distant dream for many families, yet rent keeps going up.
Building materials are expensive, and loans are out of reach to many. But as the saying goes, “When two elephants fight, it’s the grass that suffers” and in this case, it’s the poor families caught in the housing crisis.
That’s why this partnership is being seen as a game-changer, where HFB will offer loans to help people buy homes designed and built by Easy Housing using local, environmentally friendly materials, not only affordable, but also built in a way that protects the environment and can grow with the family over time.
Speaking at the launch, Christopher Akugizibwe, the Bank’s Manager for Home Loans, said: “We are tired of the mindset that affordable means cheap and poor quality. We want Ugandans to live in homes that are safe, strong, and smart for the future.”
Wolf Bierens, the Managing Director of Easy Housing, added that “This is not just about money. It’s about dignity. It’s about families. And it’s about the planet. We want people to have homes that respect their lives and their environment.
The country currently faces a housing shortage of over 2.4 million homes, where those most affected are young families, workers in informal sectors, and rural communities and it’s believed that this new plan could help fix that, one green home at a time.
The good news is that the loans are easy to access, and people can borrow up to 80% of the home’s value, with a repayment period of up to 10 years.
Processing takes just 48 hours, which makes it one of the fastest and most flexible home loan options on the market. And for those who have waited too long to call a house their own, this might finally be the light at the end of the tunnel.
