Stung by what he calls deliberate disinformation and fake news the NUP President Bobi Wine allegedly spread about him during a Tuesday media event at NUP offices, Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga has finally resolved to take legal action against his former boss. A lawyer himself, Mpuuga didn’t reveal details of what he intends to do and how soon but made it clear time had come for Kyagulanyi and ‘his ilk’ to be held accountable for their utterances through the judicial process.
Mpuuga implied he had endured a lot of defamation and hate speech from Kyagulanyi and his foot soldiers for the last two years and vowed to take action this time round. He was angry that Kyagulanyi used the Tuesday event to imply that he has full knowledge of the Masaka Bijambiya operations which caused dozens of people to lose their lives before the same was subsequently used by Gen Museveni’s government as justification to arrest and prosecute two NUP MPs Allan Ssewanyana and Mohammed Ssegirinya who were detained at Kigo for more than two years.
They were only released on humanitarian grounds after both of them got grievously ill. From this same illness, Ssegirinya never recovered. He was hospitalized for more than a year until his death on Thursday 9th January this year.
Mpuuga says this claim by Kyagulanyi (that he connived to have the two MPs locked up) was calculated at diminishing his moral standing as a leader and now wants Kyagulanyi to have the opportunity to lay on table his facts through a clear process of Court. Mpuuga says this will be beneficial to the whole country and more so Ssegirinya’s mother, wives and children who are entitled to knowing the full truth surrounding circumstances that resulted into the death of their loved one.
At the media event, Bobi Wine cleverly used Allan Ssewanyana to corroborate his Bijambiya claims against Mathias Mpuuga. At his Wednesday media event, Mpuuga sympathized with Ssewanyana saying he was a victim of Kyagulanyi’s blackmail and fear to be armed by the Kavule crowd though hinted on the possibility of making him co-defendant.
