Maj. John Kazoora is a man who has been around the political scene for some time. And during this time, the man made friends and political alliances with many people. His biggest problem was always failure to keep friendships for a long time. One of his once close friends is ex-Works Minister John Nasasira. It was Kazoora who politicized Nasasira and recruited him in NRM for which he (Kazoora) was among the pioneer evangelists.
Kazoora’s book (Betrayed by My Leader) reveals that Nasasira was for a very long time desperate to reach President Museveni and create an impression about himself. However, the man from Kazo always didn’t know how to reach Sevo despite hailing from the same district.
Meanwhile John Kazoora had been an influential and close aide to President Museveni: this was late 1980s. Kazoora had related with Nasasira since helping his wife Naome Nasasira (sister to Mary Mugyenyi) escape kidnap by Obote’s intelligence at Makerere University in 1980s.
Naome was a student sleeping in Mary Stuart where Kazoora used to go benching. Obote’s men wanted her captured so that they would extract NRA-related information since her brother-in-law Joshua Mugyenyi was a known Museveni collaborator at Makerere. Kazoora hid Naome in his room at Northcote Hall until she was able to flee to exile.
However, Kazoora in the end became bitter that the Nasasira he had helped this much ended up being used by NRM to politically annihilate him in Ankole. Back then, Nasasira maintained that Kazoora was just an angry man who had never linked him to Museveni as claimed in his book. Yet in writing, Kazoora claimed to have also linked Serwano Kabogorwa,
the ex-Kiruhura RDC to Museveni who was reluctant to accept him because the man had brutalized NRA supporters when still serving as Obote’s intelligence chief.
