Shock gripped residents of Mukono after police arrested a man accused of using TikTok to incite violence and spread false information about presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
Hakim Wamala, 41, a resident of Kalagi Village in Kyampisi Subcounty, Mukono District, appeared before the Nakifuma Chief Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to face charges of incitement to violence and misuse of social media.
According to police, Hakim allegedly posted a video on November 9, 2025, through his TikTok account @hakiqualitypropertyandconstruction, in which he reportedly urged members of the public to get pangas and spears and prepare for violence.
Investigators said the video also contained false claims suggesting that Bobi Wine was under attack, statements they warned could cause panic and provoke unlawful behavior.
Hakim was formally charged and remanded in custody pending further court proceedings. Police indicated that the incident highlights the growing dangers of misinformation and online mobilization for violence.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, explained that authorities were monitoring online spaces closely and would take firm action against anyone who attempted to use social media to incite violence or disrupt public peace.
The case has sparked renewed debate about the limits of online expression and the responsibility of social media users in an increasingly volatile digital environment.
