Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has hailed President Yoweri Museveni as a “God-given” leader during a presidential rally in Butebo, where the President outlined several key promises aimed at furthering the development of the district.

In her speech, Among expressed deep gratitude to Museveni for his leadership and the positive changes he has brought to Butebo.

She said, “The Excellency, the President of the Republic of Uganda and the flag bearer of the Mighty Party, we want to welcome you to Butebo District. Butebo is just five kilometers away from Bukedia here, and we want to thank you for giving Butebo a district.”

Among also made a powerful declaration about Museveni’s leadership, saying, “We want to thank you for the peace you brought to this place. Without the peace that you brought here, we would not be here, and we would not be enjoying all the gains we have. You are truly a God-given leader.”

Among also praised the NRM government for improving infrastructure, including roads, schools, and hospitals in the region.

She emphasized the importance of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in uplifting local economies. “Now that Butebo is a district, it deserves a tarmac road. The PDM has enabled money to circulate in the community, and in five years, we shall be prosperous,” she declared.

She added that Butebo’s residents would not fall for protest votes or alternative political agendas, insisting, “We are not protesting for the peace you brought us, or the development. We are moving forward, and we will support the NRM for the future of this country.”

Museveni’s Key Promises for Butebo

President Yoweri Museveni, who was accompanied by First Daughter Mrs. Natasha Karugire Museveni and other NRM leaders, used the rally to present several key promises for Butebo’s continued development. The President acknowledged that the district lacked a tarmac road, a situation he promised to address.

“I didn’t know that Butebo didn’t have a tarmac road. I thought the road from Pallisa to Kamonkoli passed through here. Now that I know it doesn’t, we will prioritize building the road linking Pallisa, Butebo, and Nakaloke,” Museveni assured the crowd.

In addition to improving road infrastructure, Museveni outlined ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects, including the construction of new bridges at Nabukhaya, Nambola, Nametsimeri, Sahana, and Khamitsaru, and the upgrading of key roads in the district.

The President also acknowledged the efforts of local leaders in maintaining marram roads, saying, “I traveled here by helicopter and saw how good the roads are. This shows the people of Butebo are serious about development.”

Water, Agriculture, and Health

Museveni further highlighted the importance of water and agriculture, noting that Butebo had achieved 87% safe water coverage.

He pledged to expand piped water systems in Petete and Nasurete and committed to completing water-for-production projects like the Manyowe Solar-Powered Irrigation Scheme.

Additionally, feasibility studies are underway for the Kabelai Surface Water Reservoir and the Akisim Medium-Scale Irrigation Scheme.

On healthcare, Museveni confirmed plans to upgrade existing health centers and build new ones, ensuring each sub-county has at least one Health Centre III.

He also commended Butebo’s progress in education, pointing out that the district now has five government secondary schools, a major improvement since the country’s education system began in 1961.

A Call for Unity and Continued Support

The President concluded his speech by urging the residents of Butebo to maintain peace and continue supporting the NRM’s development agenda.

He emphasized that Uganda’s future prosperity depends on their continued cooperation and active participation in government programs.

“Uganda’s future is bright because of the peace and development we have achieved together,” Museveni said. “Butebo’s prosperity will only increase if we maintain the peace and continue these projects.”

NRM Candidacy Endorsements

In a formal gesture of support, President Museveni handed over NRM flags to candidates running for parliamentary and local government positions in the upcoming 2026 general elections. This marked the official endorsement of the party’s candidates for Parliament, LC5 chairpersons, and local councilors.

Museveni urged Butebo’s residents to stay united and continue their support for the NRM, stressing that their district’s development would be built on the foundation of peace, hard work, and good governance.(For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
