The President’s young brother Gen Salim Saleh has vehemently denied reports, recently carried on this website, that he had used heavily armed men led by a one John Masembe to forcefully grab and occupy veteran politician Chapaa Karuhanga’s land located along Salaama road in Munyonyo. The land in question measures 4 acres and partly comprises of the vast vacant plot near Kiruddu hospital in Makindye Division. A few days ago, Chapaa told this website that the armed men illegally occupying his land have been using the name of Gen Saleh to threaten him. However, over the weekend Gen Saleh reached out to us through one of his senior and very influential aide (who happens to be a senior army officer) and clarified that he has nothing to do with the Munyonyo land dispute that Chapaa has since referred to Justice Catherine Bamugemereire’s Commission of Inquiry into land matters. Insisting not to have many words on the matter, Saleh’s emissary said: “My instructions are to address you as follows and this is the truth. We spoke with Gen Saleh about Mr. Chapaa’s Munyonyo land as per your story and he denied any involvement. He asked me to inform you that someone must be using his name to blackmail Mzee Chapaa.” Indeed beyond saying Masembe and his ilk were claiming to be Saleh’s men and seeking clarification from State House in vain, Chapaa himself doesn’t have much more evidence implicating Saleh. He says he tried to get audience with Saleh to clarify his position in vain but this latest rebuttal puts the matter to rest meaning Chapaa can now (and should) pursue his tormentors in courts of law and wherever he can without any fear.
