MTN Uganda has acknowledged Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy, for her pivotal role in advancing women’s empowerment, as part of its Women’s Month celebrations.

The recognition underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity and creating economic opportunities, particularly for women.

Justina Icabala, MTN Uganda’s Business Segment Manager, led the delegation and highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting female leaders who are driving significant change in the pursuit of gender equality.

“We, at MTN Uganda, recognise that empowering women in leadership is crucial for fostering inclusive economic growth,” said Icabala. “Joanita Mukasa Menya embodies the kind of leadership that not only drives businesses forward but also contributes to the upliftment of communities. Her commitment to change is exemplary.”

In her acceptance speech, Menya expressed her gratitude and reflected on her journey. “So far, the journey has been incredible, and I am deeply humbled,” she said. “To me, women are the heart of growth—we are natural nurturers, shaping and transforming the world around us. That’s why we are mothers, leaders, and changemakers.”

Menya also took the opportunity to underscore the importance of mentorship and support in her career. “Seeing the impact of my own contributions, as well as the women I have mentored and supported, is truly heartwarming. It is a great honour to be recognised, and I do not take it for granted, knowing that many remarkable women are making a difference and transforming lives across the nation.”

Vivo Energy’s success, according to Menya, has been significantly shaped by the contributions of women. She pointed to the company’s Fuelling Hope initiative—an extensive blood donation campaign—as an example of how businesses can drive societal change beyond profit motives.

“For me, these are the moments that truly matter—going beyond business to uplift communities and create lasting change,” Menya remarked. “At the end of the day, we have a responsibility not just to succeed, but to empower, transform, and inspire.”

MTN Uganda’s recognition of Menya aligns with its broader efforts to promote female leadership across various sectors. The company has long been a proponent of financial inclusion, mentorship, and enterprise development, ensuring that women have the tools and opportunities to contribute to the economy.

The event also allowed MTN Uganda and Vivo Energy to reaffirm their shared ambition: to break down barriers, expand opportunities, and drive inclusive growth. Together, the two companies continue to demonstrate that their impact is “unstoppable.”

As Women’s Month progresses, MTN Uganda remains focused on showcasing the contributions of female leaders, reinforcing the belief that collaboration between businesses can unlock limitless possibilities for progress.
