The family of Edith Katende, the fallen wife to NUP publicist Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro, has officially asked him to consider taking up another girl for a wife from their family. During a vigil and tribute-paying session at Edith’s ancestral home that was held on Thursday in Nakulabye’s Katende Zone, one of the deceased’s siblings by the names of Richard Ssemakula (pictured above in black shirt on microphone) registered their collective appreciation over the decency, courtesy, love, respect and honesty with which Mufumbiro treated their sister Edith since 2022 when they wedded and became husband and wife.
The siblings’ representative used the vigil session at the Nakulabye home to inform a delegation of their in-laws that was led by Mufumbiro’s twin brother Kenneth Kato that they are more than ready to allow Mufumbiro take out another of their sisters to fill the vacuum and gap Edith’s death has left in his life. The representative said that, as a family, they feel obliged to reciprocate the decency and respect with which Mufumbiro treated them during the sustenance of his marriage relationship with Edith. It was from this very home that Edith was given to him to permanently take for a wife on the day of their introduction barely five years ago.
The representative narrated several instances when Edith always told them how Mufumbiro was such a good man and great lover who she kept regretting not having met much earlier on in her adult life (she was always grateful Mufumbiro had ended the reign of love nigaz in her life). They also thanked Mufumbiro for doing all he could to support Edith’s fight against breast cancer including the plans he had to come out of prison and fly her to Cairo for better medication.
An elder brother to her late dad Richard Nkayivu, corroborated all this and stressed the family’s readiness to give another of their daughters to Mufumbiro. The old man, who actually drove Edith from this same Nakulabye home to Namirembe Cathedral on the day they said their marriage vows and always disclosed her as his next of kin whenever filling official documents, thanked Mufumbiro for allowing their daughter to remain devoted to her religion and Lugave clan activities even after becoming his wife.
She was a youth leader in the clan and was also an admin of several WhatsApp groups she created to bring members of her extended family together. She was also the treasurer who fundraised and kept the money collected to facilitate several clan causes. These two family representatives also mounted pressure on President Museveni to pardon Mufumbiro and to also generally stop the political persecution of political opponents.
The duo claimed that Museveni was relying on fake intelligence to keep Mufumbiro in Luzira because the day the military drills happened at Kavule, Mufumbiro wasn’t present as he was with them in the hospital because that is the day Edith underwent surgery which resulted into one of her breasts being cut off. “We were with him and it pains us that our son-in-law ended up being framed and kept in Luzira for taking part in the drills yet he was with us in the hospital fighting for his wife’s life.”
They went as far as offering to meet with President Museveni to officially request him to pardon and release Mufumbiro so that he can go and raise the young children Edith has left behind. At the same Katende zone vigil, Rev Aggrey Lutaaya from Nakulabye Kiwunya CoU castigated NRM leaders for pretending to be Godly yet they are mere heartless creatures who go to shrines to worship small gods instead of whole-heartedly dedicating themselves to the Almighty.
Rev Lutaaya was building on the momentum his boss at Namirembe Cathedral Rev Canon Magala Musiwufu had built during the earlier requiem mass when he unambiguously bashed President Museveni and other big men in NRM for mistreating citizens as if for them will live forever.
Rev Canon Magala wondered why an innocent man like Mufumbiro has to rot in jail yet big officials who steal public funds in broad day light as it happened with Lubowa hospital (this is the example he gave) never get even summoned anywhere at a Police station to make a statement. He said he was ready to die as opposed to allowing keeping his mouth shut when the NRMs are destroying the country.
He castigated the NRM for dictatorship, corruption and vote-rigging, which he said is going to cause the country to blow up. He said where things had reached in Uganda even being politically silent doesn’t guarantee safety for anyone anymore because the ruling class these days depends on fake intelligence to determine fate of the innocent people. He called on the Kawempe Magistrate to release Waisswa on bail to go and bury his and see what Gen Museveni and his soldiers will do.
He condemned today’s judicial officers who for all these years have denied political prisoners bail and praised CJ Emeritus Wako Wambuzi for presiding over a judiciary that aided the protection and enjoyment of human rights. He said each time he meets Wambuzi at public functions, he registers his appreciation to him.
Agreeing with those saying that Edith would have lived longer if her husband hadn’t continued being in what he called illegal detention, Rev Canon Magala prayed for political prisoners like Mufumbiro, Dr. Kizza Besigye and Kyagulanyi’s bodyguards (mentioned them by name). He prayed for Bobi Wine and his wife and children too. He made it clear he is always closely following NUP leaders’ political activism on social media through his smart phone, which he said was almost stolen by haters from him recently.
He also praised Joel Ssenyonyi and David Lewis Rubongoya for fearlessly calling out Gen Museveni’s failures and bad rule over Ugandans. He concluded by making it clear he is always praying for the protection of NUP leaders and the destruction of the political dictatorship in Uganda, which he said will certainly not last forever.
Speaking Edith Katende’s home in Nakulabye where a 2 hours’ vigil was held to enable community members see off their daughter, incoming Kampala Lord Mayor Ronald Balimwezo also castigated the President and his judges while sarcastically vowing to do something politically very significant if Alex Waisswa doesn’t get released on Friday to be able to go and bury his wife. A large crowd of Nakulabye community members who had gathered at the home cheered as Balimwezo threatened chaos to protest Mufumbiro’s controversial bail denial as can be seen via this video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vd0zWm8E0A.
