Equity Bank Uganda capped off the year with a vibrant celebration of staff achievement as the institution hosted the 2025 Equity Excellence Awards, a gala dedicated to recognizing employees whose creativity, commitment and teamwork elevated the bank’s service delivery throughout the year.
The event brought together staff from branches and departments across the country, creating an evening of color, applause and testimony as teams and individuals who went the extra mile in 2025 took center stage.
While addressing the attendees, Managing Director Gift Shoko reflected on the heart of customer service, reminding staff that the true measure of impact lies in the experience created for every client. He noted that the bank’s strength is anchored in meaningful connections, not just completed transactions.
“People can forget what you said, they can forget what you did, but they can never forget how you made them feel,” he said, encouraging teams to continue nurturing a culture of warmth and empathy.
A defining moment of the evening was the surprise announcement of Shoko as the recipient of the Internal CX Hero Award, a recognition of his leadership style and influence on the organization’s culture.
Staff praised his approachability, humility and ability to listen before making decisions, traits that many described as the hallmark of a true servant leader.
“He is a servant leader and embodies the core values of Equity Bank. He listens before making decisions and is approachable,” one of the staff comments read as he stepped forward to receive the award.
The night closed in a mood of celebration as cheers echoed through the room and winners were applauded for their dedication to excellence.
The awards not only honored individual brilliance but also reaffirmed Equity Bank’s commitment to fostering a workplace where exceptional service, teamwork and innovation are recognized and rewarded.
