While addressing a large gathering that came to heroically receive him in his native town of Soroti, NRM Eastern Region Vice Chairman Mike Mukula thanked sub region residents for showing him so much love.
Overwhelmed to see so many come to receive him with so much enthusiasm, Mukula ran through his political accomplishments including delivering more than 90 MPs on the NRM ticket in the whole of Eastern region and more than 20 independents who are NRM-leaning.
He asserted that, because of his excellent mobilization prowess, Bobi Wine and his NUP, even at the height of their wave, only managed to get two MPs in the whole of Eastern region and one independent. These are Karim Masaba of Mbale City, Manjiya County’s JB Nambeshe and Jinja City Woman MP Manjeri Kyebakutika. The other MP in the region who Mukula recognized as not being NRM is Asuman Basalirwa of Bugiri.
Saying he is human like any other person, Mukula humbled himself and sought for forgiveness in case there are people he wronged and have since been uncomfortable with him as a person. He said there is a lot that has been achieved by the President for Eastern region and the whole country largely because he had a team of strong and loyal cadres flanking him at CEC level.
He said there was need to focus on consolidation while accomplishing more new things for the country, which is why tested hands like him deserve to be deployed back to CEC.
Mukula thanked the people of Teso for overwhelmingly rallying behind the President and implored his people to remain focussed on supporting Gen YK Museveni both as National Chairman for the NRM and President for Uganda as a country.
The huge Mukula entourage that paralyzed business in Soroti City for much of the day, had the likes of Ofwono Opondo, Chris Baryomunsi, Salim Uhuru, Peter Ogwang, Minister Musa Ecweru from Amuria, Minister Hellen Adoa from Serere, MP Emmanuel Omoding Okabe, Hon. Abdi Fadhil Kisos Chemaswet from Sebei sub region and his own son Rodney Mukula who is eyeing the Soroti City East MP Seat come 2026.
Moses Karangwa, the larger than life NRM Chairman for Kayunga was also there as was Shaban Nkuutu, the NRM Chairman for Bugweri district in Busoga. Sanjay Tana, who bitterly competed against Mukula in 2020, was also present. Soroti playground was the venue.
Mukula, speaking in a mixture of English and Ateso, also castigated Bobi Wine for driving to the sub region only to publicly humiliate and disrespect elders of Teso. Bobi Wine delivered 6 cows and donated them to Teso elders to symbolize his solidarity with them as they push Museveni’s government to compensate them for their cattle that was looted and plundered during the years of instability.
Mukula said the Teso elders Mr. Wine paraded are very important people who are worth much more than the mere 6 cows the NUP President gave them. Saying that Mr. Wine’s political antics will backfire and end in total disaster for his party, Mukula asserted that the Itesots know that Gen YK Museveni is their only true friend who, sooner than letter, will make the appropriate interventions.
