The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, has challenged graduates of the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) to embrace hard work and determination as the foundation for success, emphasizing that the journey ahead requires resilience and professionalism.
Speaking as the chief guest at UMI’s 22nd graduation ceremony at the main campus in Kampala, on Friday, Tayebwa congratulated the graduates, including Hon. Rosemary Sseninde, who earned a PhD in management and public administration, and other Members of Parliament who were among the graduates.
He reflected on his personal journey, noting that his return to UMI for the second time felt like a moment of destiny.
“The last time I was here, I had just been appointed Government Chief Whip, and now I return as Deputy Speaker. It feels like each time I come here, I receive good luck,” Tayebwa remarked, underscoring his belief that UMI plays a transformative role in shaping future leaders.
He urged graduates to uphold professionalism and integrity, emphasizing that many UMI alumni have become respected ambassadors of the institution. “You are destined to become great people, but success does not come without a cost. That cost is hard work and determination. If you embrace those, I assure you, the sky is the limit,” he said.
Tayebwa also assured the institution that the government and Parliament would continue supporting UMI in all ways necessary to ensure its growth and ability to train professionals who contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.
The event also featured remarks from State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, presented by Mr.Mukwatampola from Ministry of education, who conveyed greetings from the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni. He lauded UMI’s role in training competent managers and urged graduates to apply their acquired knowledge and skills to drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
“The Ministry of Education appreciates what UMI is doing in building managers. Your late-night study sessions and early-morning assignments have finally paid off. You are now equipped with the tools to transform the world and your families,” Dr. Muyingo said.
UMI’s 22nd graduation ceremony underscored the institute’s commitment to producing highly skilled professionals ready to contribute to national and global development.
As the graduates step into the next phase of their careers, the message from the leaders was clear, that success is within reach, but only for those willing to put in the work.
