DF’s Moses Kasibante Tells Rubaga Voters: NUP’s Abubaker Kawalya, Aloysius Mukasa & Mayor Mberaze Shouldn’t be Elected Because They Have Never Tasted Prison

By Mulengera Reporters

Incoming Rubaga Division Mayor and DF Spokesperson Moses Kasibante, has wondered how its possible for anyone to be a serious opposition leader or activist in Kampala without ever being arrested by Gen Museveni’s Police and other security forces.

Addressing Rubaga voters over the weekend during a campaign planning event, where he was flanked by DF Chairman Lubega Mukaku, Kasibante used that yardstick to dispute the opposition credentials of Rubaga North MP Abubaker Kawalya, Mayor Zachary Mberaze and Rubaga South MP Aloysius Mukasa-all of them NUP flag bearers.

He said the trio isn’t serious in their opposition to the social injustices that are synonymous with Gen Museveni’s government, which is the only reason why they have never been arrested for even once. He said none of them has even ever been summoned anywhere at a Police station to record a statement and thereafter get released on police bond.

Kasibante said that leading in a politically assertive community like Rubaga means an opposition leader being outspoken for and on behalf of area residents against mafia actors who are always out to grab public property.

“They never get arrested because they are quiet and are not outspoken yet the Rubaga standard as was set by Ken Lukyamuzi, Wasswa Lule and Justine Sendikadiwa [ex-Mayor] was one that of an area that is represented by the most knowledgeable and most outspoken leaders. The three gentlemen are either ignorant of what is at stake or are simply not capable of talking on our behalf, which disqualifies them. It’s also possible that they are proxies of some people and aren’t prepared to be flag bearers of our grievances and concerns.”

Kasibante said that this is why voters should disregard the NUP symbol Kyagulanyi has given them and elect more outspoken candidates fronted by DF or any other political formation, basing on their individual capabilities as opposed to blindly merely ticking the umbrella. He said mere party symbol can’t result into effective representation, because what is important are the qualities of that individual leader.

He demanded for a situation where a party symbol becomes strong deriving from the personal strength of the individual carrying it in that election, as opposed to voters hoping that the mere umbrella symbol can all of a sudden turn a weakling into a strong leader.

Besides demanding that voters fire area Mayor Mberaze because he is a lukewarm politician incapable of effectively complementing Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago’s efforts to protect public property in Kampala, Kasibante Moses enumerated genuine political opposition leaders in Kampala who always get arrested countless times because they are formidable and impactful in their opposition to Gen Museveni’s regime.

He gave the example of himself, Lubega Mukaku, Erias Lukwago and others. He made it clear that its simply not possible in Kampala for anyone to be an effective opposition leader without getting repeatedly arrested by Museveni’s police. He asserted that the mere fact that the trio of Kawalya, Mukasa and Mberaze have never been arrested is indicative of the extent to which they are either too timid or deeply in bed with the agents of Museveni’s repressive regime.

Kasibante called on Rubaga voters to disregard those standing against Erias Lukwago for the position of Lord Mayor which he said has to continue being Erias Lukwago’s because it’s simply a platform to defend the ordinary people’s social justice causes as opposed to being a platform for someone who calls himself an engineer, to look for a job for himself.

He advised NUP’s Ronald Balimwezo to formally apply for a job in KCCA’s engineering department since he considers himself to be an effective engineer. He stressed that the Kampala Lord Mayor position requires a tested fighter for people’s causes who understands what is at stake, credentials he asserted Balimwezo clearly doesn’t possess.
