Led by NRM youth chairman for Kamuli, ruling party boys in Busoga sub region on Friday pleaded with the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni imploring him to use his leverage to ensure that their gracefully ageing Mama Rebecca Kadaga bounces back as NRM 2nd national vice chairperson.
They demanded the same for 1st national vice chairman Moses Kigongo. Speaking at Kamuli youth center, where Museveni addressed a rally to mobilize Ugandans to embrace government wealth creation programs, the youths argued that there is need to maintain status quo inside NRM not only regarding his own position as national chairman but other fellow leaders’ too.
The Kamuli NRM youth chairman asserted: “Your Excellence we thank you for mentoring our two great leaders namely Rebecca Kadaga and Moses Kigongo. We are grateful for that and we hereby beg you to protect them to keep in those two positions so that the status quo is maintained across NRM.” Kadaga recently got reason to worry when her successor Speaker Anita Among declared bid to oust her from that same CEC position.
The young man demanded that Museveni denounces self-seeking NRM MPs, some of them from Busoga, who move around decampaigning Kadaga while claiming to be doing this on his orders as the national chairman because he is no longer interested in Kadaga.
Museveni, in a subsequent speech, denied all this and said Kadaga is his good sister against whom he doesn’t have any problem thus far. This isn’t the first time Kadaga will be facing a formidable competitor for the CEC slot because in 2020 even State Minister Parsis Namuganza unsuccessfully competed against her.
