In a generous move that proves “a friend in need is a friend indeed,” Kampala tycoon Ben Kavuya’s East African Medical Vitals (EAMV) has contributed Shs10m to support the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The donation, made for the upcoming Kabaka Birthday Run 2025, underscores the company’s dedication to public health and community well-being.
The handover ceremony took place at Bulange, Mengo, on Thursday, where EAMV Chairman Mr. Ben Kavuya presented the cheque to Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikiro of Buganda. This was more than just a financial transaction, but a statement of solidarity in the ongoing battle against a disease that affects millions.
“As a responsible corporate entity, we are more than happy to support health-related initiatives,” said Mr. Kavuya. “The Buganda Kingdom has been championing a noble cause that affects everyone in our community.” His words reflected the importance of collective action in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The Katikiro, in response, warmly welcomed the contribution. “I am pleased to receive my long-time friend Mr. Ben Kavuya,” he said, emphasizing the strong partnership between EAMV and the Buganda Kingdom. “We appreciate their support for Kingdom activities and their commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS.”
The Kabaka Birthday Run has grown into a major platform for raising awareness, reducing stigma, and promoting health education about HIV/AIDS.
With thousands of participants expected, the event serves as a reminder that “little by little, a bird builds its nest,” every step taken in the run contributes to a larger mission of ending HIV/AIDS.
Uganda has made progress in the fight against the disease, but challenges remain, especially in rural and underserved areas. Initiatives like the Birthday Run bring much-needed attention, resources, and hope to those affected.
Dr. Joseph Kigozi, a local health expert, stressed the importance of corporate involvement in public health. “Private sector support is crucial in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Contributions like these do more than provide financial help. They break barriers, challenge stigma, and bring critical resources to those who need them most.”
For EAMV, this donation is part of a bigger mission. The company has continuously shown that business success and social responsibility go hand in hand. Beyond manufacturing medical consumables, they have positioned themselves as a key player in improving healthcare across Uganda.
As the cheque was handed over, it symbolized more than just money, representing hope, commitment, and the power of working together for a healthier Uganda. After all, as the saying goes, [A single hand cannot tie a bundle].
