Thousands of schoolchildren across Uganda are set to benefit from a major oral health campaign launched by Unilever through its Pepsodent brand.
The initiative, which aims to educate 400,000 children on proper dental care, kicked off at Kitante Primary School in Kampala on World Oral Health Day.
Speaking at the event, Anthony Esyalai, Unilever’s Head of Demand Creation for Beauty, Well-being, and Personal Care in East and West Africa, emphasized the strong connection between oral hygiene and overall health.
He warned that poor dental care can lead to serious health problems, including infections like typhoid and flu.
“Taking care of your teeth is not just about having a bright smile; it’s about protecting your entire body from disease,” Esyalai said.
Recognizing that good habits start early, Unilever is focusing on educating schoolchildren. As part of the campaign, company representatives visited schools across Kampala, including Kitante and Nakasero Primary Schools, to teach students the importance of daily brushing and proper oral care.
During the sessions, children were reminded that brushing their teeth every morning and night helps prevent serious issues like heart disease and learning difficulties.
Unilever also provided free samples of Pepsodent and Close-Up toothpaste to encourage regular brushing.
World Oral Health Day, celebrated every year on March 20, highlights the importance of maintaining good dental hygiene. Unilever, a global leader in consumer goods, has committed to supporting this cause by ensuring more children have access to the knowledge and tools needed to maintain strong, healthy teeth.
“As you study and work hard for a better future, don’t forget that brushing your teeth daily is just as important. A healthy mouth leads to a healthy mind and body,” Unilever representatives told the learners.
