In a dramatic turn of events, Counsel Erias Nalukoola, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for the highly anticipated Kawempe North by-election, has reportedly been arrested today by Joint Anti-Terrorism (JAT) operatives and military personnel.
Nalukoola, accompanied by his team, was taken into custody as they made their way to the nomination venue for the by-election, which is set to officially begin today and continue tomorrow.
Sources indicate that all of Nalukoola’s official nomination documents, including critical forms, were confiscated during the arrest.
The move has raised concerns among his supporters and the political community, with many questioning the timing of the action just as the electoral process was set to kick off.
This arrest adds an unexpected twist to the already intense political race in Kawempe North, a seat that has garnered significant attention due to its contested nature. The nomination period for the parliamentary seat, along with the councilor position for Angola Kazo, marks a pivotal moment in the region’s political landscape.
The unfolding situation continues to develop, with political leaders and observers calling for swift clarification on the matter. (For comments on this story, get back to us on 0705579994 [WhatsApp line], 0779411734 & 041 4674611 or email us at mulengeranews@gmail.com).
