National Transformation (ANT) president and former CDF, Gen. Mugisha Muntu, has challenged opposition politicians to put aside personal interests, egos and political rivalries, and instead focus on building a values-driven alliance that can rescue Uganda from what he referred to as decades of corruption, dictatorship and institutional collapse.
Speaking yesterday at the inauguration of the Peoples’ Front for Freedom (PFF) leadership in Kampala, Muntu said the country is at a critical crossroads and needs sober, disciplined actors willing to put country before self.
He called the partnership between ANT and PFF a rekindling of conscience and vision, stressing that the country’s future lies in unity built on values rather than power-seeking.
Muntu explained that the alliance is not about numerical strength or popularity, but about laying down long-term political structures that can bring about sustainable change. He pointed out that previous attempts at opposition unity often failed due to lack of trust, selfish interests, and personal egos.
He told the gathering that the country can only be liberated when opposition actors begin to prioritise the country’s future over short-term political wins, adding that the cooperation between the two parties is a commitment to creating a new political culture rooted in truth, discipline, accountability, and inclusion.
During the same event, former Leader of Opposition Betty Aol Ocan, now PFF Deputy President, echoed Muntu’s views. She said the newly forged bond between different actors should reassure the public that hope is still alive and that efforts to liberate the country are already underway.
The event also featured contributions from Ken Lukyamuzi, the former Rubaga South MP, and Wafula Oguttu, a veteran opposition leader, who both welcomed the coalition as a necessary return to the opposition’s original spirit of resistance and public service.
Muntu stressed that moral clarity and consistency must take precedence over popularity, arguing that even if the road ahead seems uncertain, a firm foundation based on values would ultimately build a stronger Uganda.
He also stated that the partnership is not meant to exclude anyone but to offer a disciplined and trustworthy platform for all those genuinely committed to liberating Uganda from decades of misrule.
