By Aggrey BabaNRM young Turk Duncan Abigaba says he has bowed out of the NRM CEC race for the position of NRM Vice Chairman for Western region. Abigaba says he was approached and convinced by a group of elders in the NRM (whose identities he isn’t comfortable disclosing) who advised him not to waste his time.
The man, whose original intention was to campaign under the banner “Creative Disruption,” which he believed was neccesary to re-energize NRM and spark internal debate inside the ruling party, now says he has been convinced that there is no way any meaningful reform can be entertained or even accepted inside NRM for as long as Gen Museveni remains both national party chairman and President of Uganda.
That he was made to realize that the best thing to do was to run for the Gen Museveni’s position and not any other. Speaking on Capital Gang this Saturday morning, Abigaba said he came to this realization when it was too late long after he had declared interest in Chris Baryomunsi’s position of Western region.
That because of his latest decision, he will be addressing the media early next week to, in greater detail, explain who his preferred candidate for the CEC position is. He said he was unlikely to endorse any of the three contenders who profess to belong to Gen MK’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). He registered his contempt for the MK group, which he fellow short of describing as a militia, making it clear that the long-serving incumbent Chris Baryomunsi would be a much better choice than of those MK adherents in the race.
The manner in which Duncan Abigaba spoke, making complementary comments towards Chris Baryomunsi during the Saturday radio program, created optimism in the Kinkizi East MP’s camp that the very eloquent young Turk of the Movement, who recently returned from graduate studies in Moscow, might come on board to amplify their man’s messaging of consolidation.
