Incoming NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson Anita Among this Monday met a large group of local government leaders, including speakers, some of whom are delegates at the party delegates conference, and gave them a message of hope.
She started by explaining to them why Gen Museveni and Hajji Moses Kigongo are supposed to be very happy with her bid for the CEC position. She explained that the two leaders are very busy people and this made them realize there was need for a 2nd National Vice Chairperson who is young and energetic.
She explained that this younger person is supposed to champion nationally political mobilisation to keep the NRM structures energized all the time. Among told the elected leaders she met at the Parliament Conference Hall that she realized the two superiors were badly in need of such a versatile cadre to amplify mobilisation, and she positioned herself because she knows what needs to be done to keep the NRM winning.
Among, who made it clear there was nothing wrong with her soliciting for votes using the facilities of Parliament where she is Speaker, promised to do everything possible to address all the welfare-related grievances the elected leaders in LGs have been having for decades.
The first thing she intends to do is to organize for them a meeting to meet the President to whom they will explain why they deserve higher pay. She is hopeful Museveni will buy in because, in her own words, he greatly values local government-level service delivery.
Those she met included Kamuli district speaker who made it clear Among is his candidate even when Rebecca Kadaga, her sole rival for the CEC slot, hails from there and has always been hailed to putting Kamuli on the map. He said the position requires someone who is strong enough both physically and emotionally. He said this is a reality that is hard to ignore because it’s true and won’t go away merely because Kadaga is a Musoga just like himself.
Among also assured the lower-level LGs elected leaders of readiness to support their activities including giving them free venues to hold their meetings and other events in Kampala. She said Parliament’s conferencing facilities would be freely available to them on top of readiness to buy for them meals and refreshments during such events. She assured them this was a sure deal because she is going to be Speaker up to 2031 and will be here to ensure no one antagonizes them.
The leaders vowed to expand the arrangement and proceed under the ULGA arrangement so that the entire LG gets to benefit from the outcomes of the meetings Anita Among will be organizing for them to meet the President.
