Kimanya-Kabonera MP Abed Bwanika predicts that NUP’s number of MPs is significantly going to diminish from the 57 to something very insignificant in 2026. Bwanika says that he immediately saw the opportunity to grow the NUP numbers in Parliament through the 2026 elections and twice drove to Kamwokya to meet Bobi Wine, SG Rubongoya and the organizing secretary to offer his proposals.
That he made it clear there was need to strengthen Buganda and capture seats in other parts of the country. “I told them the only way to do this is by way of deliberately building party structures and introducing internal elections.” Bwanika says both Rubongoya and Kyagulanyi were very hostile to internal elections and started hating him.
“Rubongoya kept saying we have to get the Constitution first but the EC is delaying us. The next I heard was them lying to the country that we can’t have party structures because there is a Court case. That was being dishonest because there is no Court injunction outlawing elections and structures formation in NUP up to this day.”
Bwanika says Rubongoya hated his idea that leaders leave Kampala and the secretariat and go to spearhead structures formation in their respective native regions of Uganda. He says as a result, the NUP support is going to shrink in 2026 and the party will be less vibrant.
Bwanika says that, besides failure to organize credible internal elections, the personal wars he is currently waging against incumbent MPs by fronting people against them is the other thing that is going to demistify Bobi Wine as betrayed politicians are going to gang up and fight back because they don’t fear him anymore as much as before since Mathias Mpuuga effectively belled the cat.
He gives the examples of betrayed MPs inside NUP to include Busiro East’s Medard Segona who was recently attacked by foot soldiers when he turned up for a meeting at Kavule. Bwanika says that the two NUP MPs from Mpigi Hilderman Kiyaga and Teddy Nambooze too are being targeted by Kyagulanyi for destruction.
He says in Busoga sub region, Kyagulanyi, who he says is also disloyal to the Kabaka and Buganda Kingdom, is going to become politically diminished because of his acrimonious fallout with key pillars like Gen Moses Bigirwa, Asuman Basalirwa and Lubega Mukaku. Bwanika controversially claims that these are the guys who caused Museveni to win in only 2 Busoga districts as Kyagulanyi swept the other 10.
Bwanika says that, instead of being respectful and appreciative, Bobi Wine betrayed the trio and threw them under the bus. He says that also refusal to pay adequate attention to the electoral reforms debate, being propagated by Mathias Mpuuga, will cost Kyagulanyi just like his perceived disrespect and hostility towards the Kabaka of Buganda.
Busujju MP David Kalwanga, who appeared with Bwanika on Kabaka’s CBS, dismissed talk on electoral reforms by making it clear that the Museveni menace can’t be mitigated merely through electoral reforms.
Kalwanga asserted that the fact that CDF Muhoozi Kainerugaba can breach all the rules in the book, the way he has been doing, and nothing is done to him is proof that Gen Museveni will always disregard everyone else regardless of what the law says.
