A traveler who does not listen to advice often finds themselves lost. This seems to be the fate of 27 Ugandans who have found themselves stranded at the Myanmar-Thailand border after being trafficked into the hands of rebels.
Hon. Muwada Nkunyingi, the Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs and MP for Kyadondo East, has sounded the alarm, revealing that these Ugandans are in distress and in urgent need of rescue.
According to him, the captives have endured mistreatment at the hands of rebels but may now have a chance at freedom, as international pressure has forced the rebels to release some foreigners.
However, their return home is hanging in the balance, as they need proof of air tickets, food, and transport to Thailand before they can cross the waters to safety.
The Ugandans, who have reached out to the Uganda Embassy in Malaysia, claim that no help has been offered so far. Hon. Nkunyingi has called upon the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the government to take immediate action to repatriate the stranded citizens.
He also emphasized the need for better travel advisory services and stronger efforts to combat human trafficking, as other countries have already secured the safe return of their citizens.
The fate of these 27 Ugandans now rests in the hands of the government. Will they act fast enough to bring them home, or will these citizens remain forgotten in a foreign land?
