As Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago prepares to pass the baton, the people of Kampala are reflecting on his remarkable 15-year tenure at City Hall. The Buganda Kingdom has expressed its gratitude for Lukwago’s tireless efforts in strengthening ties between the Kingdom and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). First Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Prof. Twaha Kaawaase Kigongo praised Lukwago for his dedication to the city, saying the Kingdom values his contributions.
Lukwago’s leadership has been marked by a commitment to serving the people of Kampala. As a seasoned politician, he has been a vocal advocate for the city’s interests, fighting for its image and against dictatorship. His efforts have earned him respect and admiration from across the city, including the Muslim fraternity, which he recently hosted to an Iftar Dinner at the Lord Mayor’s Parlor.
A man of faith, Lukwago attributed his success to Allah’s guidance and protection. “It was a pleasure hosting the Muslim fraternity to the last Iftar Dinner under my stewardship,” he wrote on social media. “We also had a Shukur (thanksgiving) Duwa for the countless blessings, protection and guidance throughout my tenure at City Hall.” His humility and gratitude have endeared him to many Ugandans.
Lukwago’s entry into elective politics in 2006 marked the beginning of a distinguished career in public service. As the Kampala Central MP, he served as the Shadow Attorney General, honing his skills as a leader and advocate for justice. His leadership of KCCA has been characterized by a focus on the needs of the people, earning him a reputation Rule of Law General.
As he bids farewell, Lukwago leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, and dedication to the people of Kampala. His contributions to the city’s growth and development will be remembered for years to come.
