By Simon Turibamwe

Prominent city lawyer Julius Galisonga, has this Monday morning bashed Minister Aida Nantaba accusing her of blackmailing the President to frustrate justice. Nantaba who has been summoned by Police to record a statement in regard to the murder of Ronald Sebulime who was gunned down by Police after she claimed that he was after her life, has since refused to record a statement with Police saying that the president has ordered her to stay at her home and wait for his next advice. In a letter Nantaba wrote to the Police Homicide Squad, stated that she will not appear before Police because the president has advised her to remain at home but Police was at liberty to visit her home and get a statement. “Note that I’m unabale to report in person having been directed by His Excellency the President to confine within my premises until he himself instructs otherwise,” Nantaba’s letter to Police partly read. Her response attracted mixed reactions from different actors who are interested in her statement which is said to be vital for investigations into the murder of Sebulime. Lawyer Galisonga told the media this morning that Nantaba’s actions to defy Police summons and writing that she has been directed by the President not to do so is just a blackmail to shield herself not to face justice. “This is total blackmail to the President for Nantaba to allege that she is under presidential directives not to go out and make a statement with police. How can a President in his own position and capacity direct a minister like Nantaba whose information is vital in police investigations not report to Police for a statement? Maybe he advised her to restrain herself and misinterpreted it,” wondered Galisonga. Galisonga said that it is good practice for Nantaba who is a minister to positively respond to the Police call because it’s her statement that will either exonerate her from the Public insults or make her a key witness in the Sebulime murder case. Galisonga also urged that Nantaba being a minister does not mean that she is above the law to defy Police appeals for her to appear for the statement where she claims in social media that she was not given official summons as a minister.  Galisonga further said that it’s time for police officers and individuals who have always committed wrong things and say its order from above to understand that the above doesn’t prevail on them when it turns to be individual consequences. “Everyone wants to be the above but once there is a backfire the above stays a side and individuals will suffer the consequence, this should be a lesson to all that takes orders from above,” Galisonga said adding that Nantaba must be paranoid wherever she is because of her contribution to the death of Sebulime. Galisonga added that Nantaba is trying to hide in her Ministerial position and closeness to the President while forgetting that the law is none-discriminative and that justice is for all. Don Wanyama the Senior Presidential Press Secretary, while appearing on NBS’ Morning Breeze program where he featured with Lawyer Galisonga also explained that Nantaba might be buying time to record statement with Police but her statement remains vital for the investigators to go step ahead. Wanyama said that in his own thinking, the President can’t order Nantaba to confine herself in the house and avoid police summons but can advise her to stay where she is safer from the public danger. He added that: “I doubt that the President can give directives to Nantaba to confine herself in the house and not to report to police what I Know he can advise her to stay where she feels safe from public danger,” said Wanyama. A week ago, Aida Nantaba reported to Police that a man travelling on a motorcycle was after her life which resulted to the murder of a 46-year-old Sebulime by police after arresting him on his way to St. Andrews Kaggwa SS for visitation day.
