IS MINISTER MWESIGE FINALLY BOWING OUT?

By Our Reporter

Because he is one of the longest serving MPs, Defense Minister Adolf Mwesige (who is also MP Bunyangabu County) has for some time been a victim of political character-assassination by his opponents led by James Ategeka who claimed the man was seeking to die in office. This over time has naturally caused Mwesige to feel emotionally uncomfortable and when he became ill in 2016, some of his supporters felt this was a result of the unfounded criticisms the Ategeka group were making against him notwithstanding the vast social services-related developments he has lobbied for Bunyangabu. Some of his accomplishments for his people include granting of many town councils, grading roads under the CAIP project and delivery of electricity to Bunyangabu. He has also supported many Bunyangabu children to get education on top of the fact that his excellent performance as Minister and backbencher has always put the Bunyangabu name on the map.

RETIRING SOON?

In what has made some people conclude that Mwesige might finally be on his way out of the Bunyangabu elective politics, the sober-minded politician recently took steps to revive his once very thriving legal business. Reliable sources close to him say that Mwesige has recently opened a new law firm that has its offices on the Hotel Africana office complex where his employees (a team of young lawyers) are operating from. From what we have observed so far, the firm is doing very well because the offices are always full of prospective clients. Families of fallen veterans (entitled to compensation) have found the lawyers there very honest, professional and the best to do business with. Mwesige himself ensures he does his supervisory role by visiting the same law firm offices on a daily basis. After doing his duties at the Defense Ministry in Mbuya, Mwesige drives to the Hotel Africana’s local food restaurant for his lunch whereafter he crosses over to the offices to be given the daily report. “From the look of things, the man can comfortably retire from elective politics which has always given him a lot of stress because the law firm is already bringing in enough money meaning he can depend on that for his pension. In any case all his children are done with school as the youngest is soon completing University and they are gainfully employed,” a knowledgeable source said of Mwesige who by all measure isn’t a poor man. Besides the law firm, Mwesige (a very good lawyer himself) has other prime commercial and residential properties including his own swanky residence in Nsambya where he resides near the American Embassy. Actually, his prime residence is located directly opposite the offices of FHRI which is an NGO owned by Dr. Livingstone Sewanyana. Yet that isn’t all. Mwesige also owns vast properties in Muyenga and in Kamwokya along Mawanda Road which bring for him decent monthly revenue because they are occupied by well-earning corporates some of whom are foreign expatriates. For comments, call, text or whatsapp us on 0703164755.
