BOBI FAMILY VOWS TO DIE DEFENDING KAMWOKYA LAND

By Our Reporter

Fred Nyanzi (aka Chairman), the most outspoken sibling of the Sentamu family, has warned directors of a real estate company called Pearl Hope Investments which has given Bobi Wine a notice of seven days after which they say they will demolish Ssemakokiro Plaza in Kamwokya which houses his music studio and other businesses. Writing on behalf of Pearl, Kampala law firm (Lubega Matovu & Co Advocates) on 11th March wrote a notice to Bobi Wine giving him seven days to leave or risk forceful eviction. Bobi Wine is one of the many residents living on Block 213 plots 20-78 which covers Mulimira, Kisenyi and Old Kira Road zones in Bukoto Nakawa Division. The other residents were equally written to. The lawyers accused Bobi Wine of criminal trespass on land that is legally not his. In an interview with Mulengera news, Nyanzi said that Bobi’s pursuers are just being used to fight the man politically otherwise it’s not very hard to know that Bobi Wine properly bought the land from Gladys Nanyonga who was the Kibanja holder with transferable interest in the land. Nyanzi said that: “We are tested fighters who can’t be threatened by such small battles. We are aware of their claim and the matter is being handled by our legal team. They have been instructed to fight it off and if need be we shall be prepared to fight for our rights on this land using any other means we shall consider appropriate.”

BACKGROUND

Investigations by this website have disclosed that the very first owner of the land was called Musa Musisi whose mile/freehold interest was first registered in 1957. From Musisi there was a subsequent transfer that was made and registered in favor of Joseph Kagumba in 1996. Eventually there came Samuel Kasoma whose predecessors in title were the two proprietors above. Kasoma’s ownership was registered in the title in 2003. It’s from him (lawyers claim) that Pearl Hope Investments became the registered owner in 2006. The political sabotage that Nyanzi talks about (assuming that’s the case) hasn’t been tried on Bobi Wine for the first time. Just last months there emerged social media reports that indicated how URA was plotting to arrest him for criminally defaulting to pay Shs55m in business-related taxes. The allegation was that these are taxes that Mr. Wine had been dodging to pay for a period of 10 years (2008-2018). The taxes related to a number of his businesses namely Magere House, One Love Beach, Ssemakokiro Plaza and the two speed boats he operates on Lake Victoria. For some time, the threat hovering over Mr. Wine’s head was that he could be jailed unless he paid up. In our interview Nyanzi said all those are actions of political propaganda originated by haters in the NRM. For comments, call, text or whatsapp us on 0703164755.
